CCSF: holiday closure, lab reservations next week

Hello class,

A class has posted a reservation for the darkroom next Saturday 11/14, 9:40-12:30.  Since many of you use the darkroom before class, you may wish to arrange time during the week instead.

Wednesday is a holiday and the campus will be closed.

Here's some nice shots of the hand-coloring we did Thursday.  I also included some from last year.

Super fun!

CCSF: selective focus

Today in class we covered how to use the schiempflug principal to select a specific line of focus.  This is a bit different from how we used it before (to make everything in focus).  Below is a video that covers those steps again.

Technique in detail:
  1. Compose
  2. Max out focus (try for maximum movement before lens fall off begins)
    1. For horizontal use tilt to max out
    2. For vertical use swing to max out
  3. Check the lens coverage
  4. Use the opposing movement to adjust focus to each end
    1. For horizontal use swing to select the focus
    2. For vertical use tilt to select the focus

CCSF: schedule update

Week 11 updates (gasp! has it already been that long?)

This week we will discuss the final project options and how to create consistency in your work.  That will take about 30 minutes.

For lab, we will get out of the classroom and do some photographic on campus.  Please check out cameras and load film BEFORE CLASS STARTS.  You will not have any time to do it during class.

Please post a comment below suggesting a location on campus you think will be interesting.

CCSF: Student work with Scheimpflug

Here are some examples of using the Scheimpflug technique to control plane of focus.

Notice how Long used the technique to focus near to far on one flat plane.  He chose to only have the seat in focus.  This example used tilt to control focus.

In picture 2, the bench back is in focus from near to far.  This is an example that used swing to control the plane of focus.
